We go beyond traditional music education. Our approach integrates songwriting, music composition, and activism with state literacy standards, creating a comprehensive curriculum that nurtures both academic and expressive needs. Through engaging classroom activities and innovative techniques, we ensure that every student receives a holistic learning experience.

Our program is built on two fundamental pillars: Composition and Performance. Through hands-on studio recording activities, guided group projects, and personalized coaching sessions, students embark on an exhilarating journey of creative exploration and self-discovery. We provide a supportive environment where they can hone their music technology skills, develop their vocal talents, and delve into the world of commercial music.

We firmly believe that integrating the arts into the fabric of a school culture has a profound impact on student outcomes. Not only does it enhance academic performance, but it also prepares students for college and career success beyond high school. Our track record speaks for itself, as countless students have found their passion and gained the skills necessary for a bright future.

The Concept

In each album, we embrace a specific theme that aligns with Indy Urban Youth's core values, character pledge, or important issues that resonate with our students. These themes revolve around local initiatives, community activism, and social justice topics. Once the theme is established, students dive right into generating ideas for their songs.

Learning By Example

Students explore popular chart-topping songs of today and iconic tracks from the past. They analyze these songs to uncover the key ingredients of a hit, the elements of impactful vocal performance, and the common threads that connect different eras. This process empowers students to create their own meaningful music.

Composition and Recording

Step by step, students find their voice, curate their story and craft their own original compositions. Students will learn the parts of a song and how each part functions in helping them deliver their unique message.

Each student receives a series of voice lessons to assist in the preparation of recording their song and ensure they render a polished performance. Alongside an Engineer and Vocal Coach, students record the final product of their song.
